Several liquid crystalline phases are bicontinuous cubic, reversed hexagonally, or reversed cubic phase, and several nanostructure liquid phases. Of the many liquid crystalline phases, bicontinuous cubic phases possess a special status. Dispersed particles of bicontinuous cubic liquid crystalline phase (cubosomes) are self-assembled nanostructured particles that can be formed in aqueous lipid and surfactant systems. Cubosome dispersions are thermodynamically stable, bioadhesive, and biocompatible, because of their properties, they are versatile systems, administrable by different ways such as orally, percutaneously, and parenterally. The discovery of cubosomes is a unique story. Despite the early realization of their potential, the manufacture of cubosomes on a large scale faced difficulty because of their complex phase behavior and viscous properties. The cubosome advantage is related to the simple production procedure and chemico-physical stability. Concerning the liposome, cubosome possesses a larger ratio between the bilayer area and the particle volume and larger breaking resistance. Cubosome structure studied using electron microscopy, “light scattering,” x-ray and “NMR.” This review focus on liquid crystalline phase and cubosomes (bicontinuous cubic...

Background: Recently, in the discipline of ophthalmology, there have been many developments and introduction of new ocular therapeutic agents. To improve drugs therapeutic efficacy, minimize adverse effects, and delay development of resistance drug utilization trends and patients need to be evaluated periodically. Objective: To assess the prescribing, drug use, and to dispense practice of ophthalmic drugs at Boru hospital. Methodology: Cross-sectional study was conducted on patients attending outpatient department pharmacy of Boru Meda hospital to collect their medicines. Prescriptions of 84 patients encountered were analyzed using World Health Organization (WHO) prescribing indicators and additional indices. Result: Analysis showed that the mean number of drug per prescription was 2.2 and 97.2% of prescribed drugs were from the national essential drug list. 89.5% of drugs were prescribed by their generic name. Majority of the prescribed drugs were antibiotics (62.7%), and only 17.7% of the prescriptions had a frequency of dosing. Percentage of patients with good post-dispensing knowledge on the dispensed ophthalmic drugs was 37.1%. Dispensing and counseling time were 18sec and...

This prescription survey was carried out to find the most frequently used benzodiazepine class (e.g., Clonazepam, Diazepam, Bromazepam, Clobazam, Midazolam, Flurazepam & Alprazolam) & their rational use as anti-anxiety agents in the Comilla & Feni District of Bangladesh. All the prescriptions were collected in June 2015, prescribed by psychiatrists throughout May 2015. We have found prescription containing 21% Clonazepam, 12% Flurazepam, 6% Midazolam, 4% Alprazolam, 2% Bromazepam, 2% Diazepam & 2% Clobazam in Comilla district. 51% prescription did not contain any benzodiazepines. In Feni district, we have found 22% Clonazepam, 0% Flurazepam, 0% Midazolam, 11% Alprazolam, 6% Bromazepam, 0% Diazepam & 0% Clobazam in the prescription. 61% prescription in this district did not contain benzodiazepines. We found 1 prescription containing Midazolam & Flurazepam (both are benzodiazepines). In another prescription collected from Feni district, we got 1 prescription containing Clonazepam & Alprazolam. But we recommend the citation of the chief complain or diagnosis in the prescription for better understanding and justification of using any drug, especially when it is a...

Aim: To evaluate sleep habits of undergraduate dental students in a private dental college and the relationship between sleep habits and their academic performance. Objective: Sleep patterns and sleep problems amongst dental students have been addressed and related to their academic performance. Materials and methods: A questionnaire on sleep habits, academic performance, and lifestyle were administered. The participants are dental students from Saveetha Dental College. Background: Sleep is a basic drive of nature. Sufficient sleep helps us think more clearly, complete complex tasks better, and more consistently, and enjoy everyday life more fully. Sleep is, in essence, food for the brain, and insufficient sleep can be harmful, even life-threatening. When hungry for sleep, the brain becomes relentless in its quest to satisfy its need and will cause feelings of “sleepiness,” decreased levels of alertness or concentration, and, in many cases, unanticipated sleep. Reason: To analyze the sleeping habits and academic performance of dental college...

Omega 3 fatty acid is one such dietary supplement, known to modulate the host response is chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, ischemic cerebrovascular disease, osteoporosis by producing resolvins and proteins without any side effects; periodontitis is an infectious disease caused predominantly by gram negative anaerobes. The effect of dietary supplementation with omega 3 fatty acid as a host modulating agent with chronic periodontitis. This review going to reveals about the omega 3 fatty acid which helps to reduce the...
