A prospective observational study was conducted to assess the prescribing pattern of ceftriaxone and to determine the indication for which ceftriaxone prescribed in a general medicine department of a south Indian teaching hospital. A total of 200 prescriptions were collected, collated, and analyzed from the general medicine department for 6 months. Out of 200 study population included in the study, the majority are males. The frequent condition for hospitalization and for which the ceftriaxone was prescribed was respiratory tract infection. The defined daily dosage was proper for 182 patients, and average DDD of ceftriaxone was 2.06. The average total cost incurred for Ceftriaxone per patient was found to be Rs.654.64, for an average of 2.32 days. The prescriber should follow the standard treatment guidelines for improving rational use and to prevent the development of resistance. The specificity of the prescribing pattern of ceftriaxone was more; it means specific therapy was more than empirical therapy. The hospital was largely in compliances with WHO DDDs. The duration of use of ceftriaxone...

Dermatologists should be aware of cosmeceutical products and have access to accurate scientific theory with validated data-if any exists-to support cosmeceutical claims. The question remains whether it is possible to deliver adequate doses to the skin in-vivo and to produce clinical or histological effects. It is important to evaluate these new products with a critical and careful methodology, considering intended product use and the design of available studies supporting product use. The system was optimized with a primary aim to prepare this formulation is to reduce down the concentration of ethanol in formulation by addition of PEG-600 as a co-solvent. All formulations were observed for appearance of color and transparency of gel. The pH of gels was adjusted in the range 6.8 to 7.4. The formulation designed including the ingredients of carbopol 934, PEG (600), ethanol, and water. Evaluation carried out for the formulation with rheological studies. In-vitro diffusion study through flow through diffusion cell method. Drug content uniformity was determined spectrophotometrically. Spreadability indicates that the gel is easily...

Aim And Objective: This review aims to find the sialic acid level in oral cancer patients. Background: Oral cavity cancer is currently the most frequent cause of cancer-related death among Indian men. It is preceded by oral precancerous conditions like leukoplakia or oral sub mucous fibrosis. Altered cell surface topography is the soul of the malignant cell. Early detection is the key to treat oral cancer. Attempts are on to develop sensitive, specific, and reliable biochemical tests for early detection and diagnosis. Glycoproteins and Glycolipids are important constituents of the cell membrane; hence, they play an important role in malignancy. Glycoconjugates are released into the circulation in increased level from malignant cells due to increased turnover, secretion, or shedding of malignant cells. So the measurement of and salivary glycoprotein and glycolipids has received a wide range of acceptance in the screening of oral cancer. Sialic acid is N-acetyl neuraminic acid. It is a negatively charged nine-carbon monosaccharide commonly attached to carbohydrate chains of glycoproteins and glycolipids. Salivary glycoproteins play...
