The aim of the present study was comprehensively establishing the utility of PAMAM dendrimers in solubility enhancement of Flurbiprofen. It can be concluded that PAMAM dendrimers in the solubility of Flurbiprofen but also helped to localize the drug at the site of action and the drug can provide better therapeutic efficacy with lower dose by reducing its adverse effect. From the solubilization study, it was observed that the increase in solubility was due to the dendrimeric complexation or encapsulation. From this paper, it can also be concluded that formulation containing more amount of dendrimer concentration provides a higher flux than formulation containing a lower amount of dendrimer. This may be due to an increased thermodynamic activity of the drug in dendrimic formulation at a lower concentration of...

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from naturally occurring biomaterials provides an alternative, eco-friendly and cost-effective means of obtaining nanoparticles. It is an important thrust area for all scientists and has gained importance because it prevents the environment from pollution. Multi-drug resistance is a growing problem in the treatment of infectious diseases and the widespread use of broad-spectrum antibiotics has produced antibiotic resistance for many human bacterial pathogens. Advancement in nanotechnology has opened a new field in nanomedicine, allowing the synthesis of nanoparticles and evaluation of their synergistic effect with pre-existing antibiotics that can be assembled into a complex structure. Novel studies and technologies are developed to understanding the mechanisms of disease for the design of new drugs, but unfortunately, infectious diseases continue to be a major health problem worldwide. Since ancient times, silver was known for its anti-bacterial effects and for centuries it has been used for prevention and control of disparate infections. Now-a-days vancomycin resistance in gram-positive Cocci is a growing global health problem. In the early 1950s,...

Transdermal drug delivery has been accepted as a potential non-invasive route of drug administration, with advantages of prolonged therapeutic action, less side effect, easy use, and improved patient compliance. Glimepiride is an anti-diabetic drug with a shorter half-life of ~ 5 h, low bioavailability, and extensive first-pass metabolism due to these limitations required to maintain the therapeutic level it has chosen as a transdermal drug delivery system. The present study was to formulate and evaluate the transdermal drug delivery system of Glimepiride using polymers such as tristearin, soya lecithin & Eudragit RS100 by solvent casting technique. Central composite design (CCD) was applied by using design-expert to optimize the composition of tristearin and soya lecithin for transdermal drug delivery. The prepared formulations were evaluated for different physicochemical characteristics like weight variation, folding endurance, flatness, pH of patches, % moisture content, % moisture uptake, % elongation, % drug content and % drug...

Background and Aim: Diabetes mellitus is a disorder characterized by the body’s inability to produce insulin, leading to an increased level of blood glucose and manifestation into various complications. Diet can be considered an important factor in the prevention or management of diabetes. Spices, apart from their culinary and remedial uses, have been exploited for their pharmacological and physiological activity, e.g., clove. Our study aims to investigate the in-vitro α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of Syzygium aromaticum and its herb-drug interaction with Acarbose and Metformin. Materials and Methods: The α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was measured by glucose oxidase (GOD) method. The clove extract was subjected to phytochemical analysis. The clove extract was microencapsulated in β-cyclodextrin. The release efficiency of the microencapsulated extract was investigated and compared against microencapsulated extract and drugs (Acarbose and Metformin). Results: IC50 value of hydrocodone extract of clove was 154.36 µg/ml while that of microencapsulated spice extract was 89.414 µg/ml, proving that encapsulation of clove in β-cyclodextrin enhances α-glucosidase inhibition efficiency. IC50 values for herb-drug interaction involving clove...

Background: The population of senior citizens is progressively increasing worldwide due to various factors. As age increases, it causes numerous changes in the functional ability and mobility among senior citizens. Objectives: Assess the level of functional ability and mobility among the senior citizens, correlate the functional ability and mobility among the senior citizens, associate demographic variables with functional ability and mobility. Materials and Methods: The non-experimental research approach of the descriptive design was adopted. The study was conducted at a selected rural community in Bangalore with a sample size of 100. The study participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique of those who fulfill the inclusion criteria. Katz Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADL), Lawton’s Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) and TINETTI Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment tool (POMA) (balance and gait) scales were used to collect the data. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Most of the samples (95%) were independent to perform their ADL. 91.3% of females and...
